Hi Folks,
There have been some interesting changes lately, so it seems a good
idea to fill you in....
I have put a new current.tar.gz archive at:
ftp.netbsd.org:/pub/NetBSD/arch/atari/bin.updates
As you probably know, Waldi has made the bootblocks for NetBSD/Atari. The
binaries to install and use them are in the archive. It's really quite
nice to type 'reboot' and to get back into NetBSD without any user
intervention. It saves time too ;-)
I have done some work to get kernel crash-dumps working for NetBSD/Atari.
The user-land support for this (new libkvm's, a working savecore and all
other progs that depended on libkvm), is also in the archive.
Although I don't hope you get many crash-dumps, when you get one, the
possibility to save and analyse it makes tracking down the cause of it a
lot easier... Being able to generate a stack with gdb instead of writing
it down using pencil & paper is a _great_ improvement when doing some
kernel hacking ;-)
Also in the archive is a new 'config' binary. You _should_ use this when
configuring kernels newer than 19 March! This has become necessary because
some massive changes have been made the the autoconf machinery. This also
caused the kernel version to bump from 1.1A to 1.1B .
Also worth mentioning is the fact that a nasty bug has been removed
from the serial driver. If you have problems dialing out more than once
with ppp or some other prog using the modem, you might consider to
upgrade to a more recent kernel.
As always, be careful. Make sure that you save the original versions of
the binaries installed by the tarball in case of trouble.
Have fun,
Leo.
