Just to let you know that I am going away for the first 2 weeks of
februari and I won't have email or other net-access....
While I am spoiling your time anyway, I can as well put some more info
in this message ;-)
Some of you might have noticed that thanks to Thomas, the Xservers for
the atari are now merged into the X-sources shipped with NetBSD. I think
this is a really good thing. It intergrates NetBSD/atari a bit further
into the NetBSD community.
I am currently trying to get a wscons-interface up and running. It will
probably be Hades only (at least for the time being), since the bulk of
the standard vga code is ready for use. This means that the console code
is slowly moving towards the 'standard' NetBSD code too.
Another project I am working on is the support for the et6000 & et6100
cards. This is a project with a lot of stubling blocks, mostly caused by
the fact that we must do without the on-card BIOS. It looks like most
of the hurdles are taken. I am currently typing this in X on the et6100 ;-)
Unfortunately, I did not receive much help from the 'Milan-guys'. I really
would have liked to explore NetBSD possibilities on the Milan. But
without info and the feeling of cooperation, I am not going that road :-(
Once the et6x00 support is done, I think I should aim for a new snapshot.
Are there people willing to think about how we can migrate to the 'sysinst'
way of doing installs/upgrades? Things need to be done in the following
areas:
- How the heck are we dealing with 720KB floppies and 4MB mem. systems?
- We need documentation updates (a complete turn over).
- Someone needs to port 'sysinst'
- People need to test it of course ;-)
Since I hope 1.4 to be made in early summer, we are already a bit late on
this...
This mail is a bit in 'brain-dump' format, sorry for that, but I hope I
will keep you in touch a bit.
Reactions & volunteer submissions welcome!
See you in a week or two,
Leo.
