Insert standard joke about "assume" here.  Except there's no "u" here,
only "me".

I actually bothered to take the bottom panel off of the machine today
and discovered that the RAM is a fairly ordinary PC2-6400 SO-DIMM.

So it can be upgraded.

How far?  Given that userland is 32bit, I would guess that it would be
fruitless to try larger than 4GB.  Also, 4GB is the largest single DDR2
SO-DIMM I see available (and a bit on the expensive side).  A 2GB module
can be had for less than a quarter of the price of the 4GB part.
