Would it be possible to brute force an install?  I am going to try the new
Linux Diskless method to try to get a 340 up and running.  What I would
like to do from there, is force a disk into the correct behavior to boot
from that disk.

I have tried the boot block from 1.0 but I do not know if it was corrupted
in transmission.  (I still have not figured out how to varify the CKSUMS)
