So the patch by David Jones worked quite well for me!

Now I can use the Quantum disk as filespace.

I still can not use it as a boot platform.

If I attempt it it reports some scsi sense class erros and
goes down.

If the 15 instead of 0 for the hd->scsi_tch parameter made the
scsi driver handle my disk as good filespace there should be
a possibility to make the disk avaiable for booting as well 

I hope this can be checked at some time.
