I am using the MERIDOC Kernel and Xhpc from the same ftp site.
   But..
   The touch screen doesn't work for me, I get the cursor but no response when 
   I touch the screen.
   xev reports no event.

   Is there a config file or something that I have missed.?

Ya, I noticed this.  I wasn't sure of the cause, and I forgot about it
until you mentioned it.  One or both of the following things "cured" it:

1) Make sure you start the X server in the following way:

xinit -- /usr/X11R6/bin/X :0

You can put any additional arguments for the X server after the "0", but
make completely sure you use the full path to the X server.  You may also
specifiy an alternative ".xinitrc" file after xinit, but before the '--'.



2) The permisisons on the /dev/ws* devices:

I don't usually run things as root, so at one point I changed the
permissions to be as the above shows.
