All the devices major and minor numbers match, so do the permissions

This may give an indication of the problem

I ran  ktrace /usr/X11R6/bin/Xhpc :0 via  init ~/.xserverrc


The dump shows no reference to wsmouse[x], yet shows the open on 
/dev/wsmux0 and /dev/wskbd0.
according to the source the mouse is open right after the keyboard

Also when it reads /var/run/dev.db no reference to /dev/wsmouse is within 
the loaded portion of the file yet
grep wsmouse /var/run/dev.db reports a match.

Also I have switched to the 10-Aug build with the same results.

In regards to cross compiling, I figured that if I hand make imake  and 
other utilities used in the build I can cross compile
