panic on attempting to extract kernel during install

Hi folks,
I recently obtained a Jornada 720 to run NetBSD on. So far I've tried
the HEAD snapshots form the 22nd & 24th as well as 7.0-RELEASE. All
result in a panic when attempting to extract the first file obtained
(the kernel) during install.
There is a difference between the snapshots that is the message printed
when the system panics.
Going from
ock error
Stopped in pid 54.1 (tar) at c00858a8: mov r15, r14
to
fs_init_vnode: dup alloc
Stopped in pid 93.1 (tar) at c0049274: mov pc, r14

Anyone else having the same issue?
