I'd guess it's either ssh key exchange or DNS taking the time - try

ssh -1 user@host 

rather than 

ssh user@host

 - if that's faster, it's key exchange, not DNS.

 (I've noticed key exchange delays shelling into a 75MHz Sparc 20,
 but not anything like 2 minutes when using a MobilePro 800, which
 is ~ 141Mhz MIPS chip i think).
