I have the MC-R700A (MobilePro 800), and even under Wince the battery
status is basically useless. For example, 'ifconfig up'ing a wireless
card will change the machine's belief about the percentage of battery
left. It isn't like a real laptop with a current meter and small CPU
inside the battery.
There is NetBSD code to expose battery information to userland, but
the hardware doesn't provide battery information in any serious way,
compared to, say, an Ericsson celfone. It is more like a Motorola
celfone.
Also NetBSD can't control the screen's backlight.
hpcmips is kind of a pain in the ass, but I promised never to buy
another Intel CPU, ever, so it's worth it. At least it feels like a
real computer, and also you avoid being forced to use those stupid
XFree86 servers.
