I can't seem to get X working again on my IBM z50.
When I try to [startx] even as root I get:
/dev/ttyE0: 648x480 (1280bytes/line) 16bit offset=0
use RAW XT keyboard, /dev/ttyE0
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
It also clobbers my console and I cant type anything; My only choice is pull
the battery and reboot.
When I get back theres a nice little [Xhcp.core] file sitting in my home.
if I type "startx > ~/x.log 2>&1" the only thing in [x.log] is:
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
It still hoses the console.
The most frustrating part about this is I had X working beautifully before I
decided to re-install everything (I had used the entire 256 CF card as
NetBsd and I got tired of WinCE asking me if I wanted to format it every
time I powered up. I wanted to put a small partition on the CF to make CE
happy and to hold the bootstrap)
Even after reverting back to the same setup (using the entire CF card as
NetBSD and same versions of the same sets) I still had the above symptoms.
Another thing of note is before I decided to start over I tried to get Xdm
running (I discovered later that it a known issue that it doesnt work). I
cant remember if I tried to fire X up after trying Xdm but before starting
with a clean reinstall. Is it possible that this clobbered something that
survives reboots and reinstalls?
Now im at the point where I've grabbed and installed all the 1.6 sets
(except that I leave out man.tgz, games.tgz, comp.tgz, xcomp.tgz and
xfont.tgz for space reasons, but this I had also done when I had X working)
Sorry I tend to over elaborate, but I feel too much info is better than not
enough.
John
