  Charles Hannum just made a bunch of changes to the xi driver.  If you
can compile a new kernel without too much difficulty you might want to try
the latest source, however I don't know if the changes would apply to 1.6
cleanly.  The driver was split (for com attachment), so it would need a
config file change at least.
