Interesting machine!
I'd like to take the plunge and try to install NetBSD on it, the instructions seem to be pretty straight-forward, but...
Yes, they are...
I can't find any real info about WinCE anywhere, I know practically nothing about it, which probably wouldn't help me much even if I did, considering the OS on this machine is all in Japanese.
Just like all WINCE machine a generation earlier... Language should not be an obstacle.
1. is it possible to hurt the WinCE installation by loading NetBSD?
No if you use a CF card to install/load the NetBSD system. I don't think there is an easy way to change the ROM other than using a hammer.
2. how do I backup and restore a WinCE installation?
IMO, ROM is always there till it dies a natural death.
3. can I permanently load NetBSD on this machine (and never have to deal with WinCE ever again?)
Yes, change the ROM -- there is no easy(=inexpensive) way as per my reply 1.
I may not keep this system, so I would like to not do anything irreversible.
Thanks!
Regards.
