4.0_BETA should work (in the NetBSD-daily/netbsd-4 directory).

It should be easy if you have just about any unix-like system available.
The build.sh script builds the cross compile tools. Start with:
./build.sh -O /lfs/mobj -D /lfs/mdest -T /lfs/tools -m hpcmips tools
kernel=VR41XX
You can use -u when building kernels to avoid rebuilding the whole
thing, but this seems to fail often when updating tools (which isn't
necessary that often anyway). "Tracking NetBSD-current" under "How to get
NetBSD" has basic info on CVS (use -r NetBSD-4 to track the release).
-current sources are broken currently for VR systems and need the patch
in port-hpcmips/36249, also at:
