Old version of NetBSD and pkgsrc archives
I picked up a second Z50 but it only has 16MB RAM. Since it's not
very realistic to install a current version of NetBSD with 16MB, I am
now installing v1.6.3 since it specifies at least 8MB RAM. With this
older version, I should even be able to run X-Windows.
I found the older versions of NetBSD, but I'm uncertain of what to do
about pkgsrc. I have no idea if(& doubt it will) the current version
of pkgsrc would run on this older version. And even so, I don't know
if any of the programs listed in the current pkgsrc list would be able
to be installed either.
Is there an archive of older pkgsrc programs like there is for older
versions of NetBSD? I've looked and I see ftp sites with directories
called "Attic" but they are almost always empty.
And, yes, I am aware that older versions may have security risks. I
am not concerned about that. Once I get this running it will probably
only connect to a network to copy files back & forth. It will
probably never really get on the internet. Also, I'm sure that the
Windows CE on it probably isn't very secure either. What's the old
saying? I'd rather run an unpatched UNIX/Linux than a fully patched
Windows........
Thanx
