I read that, and I don't understand why the current snapshot gives me
a kernel with 3.0_BETA.

Where did you get that snapshot from? Are you sure you ahve updated
the kernel on the DOS partition of the CF card, i.e. that you are
actually booting the kernel from the snapshot?

I believe I got it here
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD-daily/netbsd-3/200508120000Z/hpcsh/binary/

I'm sure I updated it on the DOS partition of the CF card and it is booting properly because the old kernel announced 3.99.3.

Why is there a 3.0_x at all if 2.99 is current? What does 3.0_BETA
represent?

Try e.g. this one

   ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD-daily/HEAD/200508240000Z/hpcsh/

The kernel files there are a different size than the ones I downloaded, so I'll give it a try.

Why the one from 0824 instead of the most recent one?

Mike
