It's probably having problems due to the presence of the CD-ROM. Just
having an ATAPI device connected using a non-ATAPI aware kernel can
cause lots of problems with the wd driver. (It always ran *really* slow
for me, and the controller never turned off it's activity light.)
1.2 needs to support ATAPI.
