I've put a snapshot of some work I did on the com driver yesterday in:

This version is based on Onno van der Linden's previous version, but
has been substantially changed, and several bugs (including
transmitter lockups, lost output, and some minor flow control
problems) have been fixed.

The shar file contains a set of diffs, and a set of new files
containing the driver itself.

Please note that this is NOT FINISHED.  It's worth what you paid for
it, yadda yadda.  However, I'd appreciate feedback on whether it works
or not, and how it performs.
