My experiences with BIOS COM support is so frustrating that I'd like
to stay away from it.
I'd like like to get the boot blocks to key off of something in the
CMOS to decide whether or not to try COM console. Maybe,
If keyboard installed,
then
check for keyboard, no keyboard, use COM
else
use VGA even if keyboard not present
fi
I have 5 sun machines, and 7 i386 machines. One sun has a console,
one i386 is a win95/linux/Netbsd machine (my wife's), one i386 is a
notebook, and the rest are ideally, consoleless. Realistically, i have
an SVGA/keyboard switch, and two i386 are consoleless, and two more
are considered "must work without another machine", but would have
dumb terminals instead of keyboard/monitors if not for the damn BIOS.
