Unforturnately that has nothing to do with it. Although I didn't
mention it in the last post, I had tried -current ld.so with no
update, with update and with update2. All give the same
/usr/libexec/ld.so: Undefined symbol "_xmDrawingAreaWidgetClass" in
java:/usr/local/jdk1.1.5/lib/i386/green_threads/libawt.so
However, as Todd suggested, replacing ld.so-current with ld.so-1.3.2
allowed the eg. appletviewer to work.

Presumably after Todd's ld.so commit all will be cured :-)
