Well, we have a dirty hack that does power off on shutdown (actually that
is the only thing that the user can see that works), everything else is
under development... Max, who is the guy responsible for the kernel stuff
is currently incorporating another implementation, but that is about as
much as I know about the proceedings of the kernel parts (my domain is the
userland code).

Unfortunately alter.net has some router problems, so I can't reach the
ACPI/FreeBSD pages...
I thought about having a common API for ACPI support under all Un*ces, so
that one would not have to support multiple different solutions (I think
the API would also be accepted more easily then). How much of the kernel
code can be shared has to be seen, but I'm not an expert in kernel
programming.

The interpreter is kernel code, I'm afraid, but I thought about the
userland code -- The client libary, the X extension, ... Especially for
the X stuff it is very important to get a good, accepted solution because
it may very well happen that someone uses a Linux box as an X terminal to
access a NetBSD box or vice versa, and I want that to run smoothly.
I forgot to put that into my first mail: The homepage of the ACPI4Linux
project is http://phobos.fs.tum.de/acpi/ .
