Thanks to all for the information - greatly appreciated.

Sadly it looks like this machine will be joining the great
graveyard in the sky then (AKA having Linux installed on it.)  It's
not worth enough to buy new network cards for, but probably worth
too much to ditch completely just 'cos NetBSD won't run on it
(apparently the 10bT ports on the wacko network cards work fine,
so it can at least perform some sort of useful purpose under Linux.)
