Over the next day or so, you'll be seing a set of commits to the
"sommerfeld_i386mp_1" branch for files under sys/arch/i386 which will
contain preliminary code to spin up secondary processors and configure
the various APIC interrupt controllers.
This work is based on code submitted by Stephan Grefen in a PR last
summer, but substantially reworked and extended.
This code is not quite mature enough to go into -current, but is in a
state where it would be quite useful for folks with x86 MP systems
available to try out and see how far it gets, as well as for other
folks to try out to make sure it continues to work correctly on
uniprocessor systems. i expect that with some cleanup, it could be
merged within a month or two -- either before, or after, the 1.5 cut
depending on what the portmaster and releng folks think is
appropriate.
I'll send mail when there's something checked in which is worth
testing..
Note that this does not yet get to the point where you can do useful
work with the additional processors. I'll let the person working on
that half speak up when he's ready..
