Anyone played around with NIS (the protocol formerly known
as YP- but at least didn't change to some funky unicode symbol)
in 1.4.1?
I've got everything working great, with the exception of
passwd and/or yppasswd. Either on the server or a client
it fails on getting the Old Password. The dialogue is such:
$ yppasswd
Changing YP password for joeuser.
Old password:
Sorry.
yppasswd: YP passwd database unchanged
I've tried it as root, and as several users. If I perform
a passwd -l on the NIS server, then re-make in /var/yp,
the new password works fine on all the clients.
All the services are running on the server:
$ ps -ax | grep yp
169 ?? Ss 0:00.14 ypserv -d
182 ?? Ss 0:00.02 ypbind
184 ?? Is 0:00.00 rpc.yppasswdd
And Clients:
$ ps -ax | grep yp
170 ?? Ss 0:00.09 ypbind
172 ?? Is 0:00.00 rpc.yppasswdd
And I can log-in fine on any of the clients using NIS
accounts/passwords.
Am I missing something or some service that needs to
be running or is something broken in 1.4.1? Any
insights would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
