Plugh!

I have one of those "unsupported pci Yamaha sound boards" built in
to my motherboard.  Is the chipset *really* that different from the
one which is supported on ISA, or does it just refuse to attach from
the PCI bus if it gets wedged in there?  I understand the layout 
is similar but it is problematic designing the pci attach code...
is that right, or do I have a bad brain stick?

[I can't take this machine down to test this -- it's my workstation,
 and therefore considered "production/corporate".]
