Login normally - everything OK.
startx - works OK
exit - back to command line - cursor moves when characters are typed
and when machine responds - but no characters actually appear.
Only solution is to reboot!

No! This doesn't fix the problem. It also mutilates the cursor under
X.
The card in question is a Cirrus Logic GD-5428 with 1024 Kbytes (as
revealed by SuperProbe). I have tried reducing screen resolution
and/or
reducing specified memory, etc. - no effect.
I have never had these problems with Trio S3 cards (and I didn't use
'wscons=YES' for them).
