I tried out an ATI XPERT 2000 - Rage 128VR, 32MB ram, AGP
scanpci reports:
pci bus 0x1 cardnum 0x00 function 0x0000: vendor 0x1002 device 0x5246
ATI Rage 128 RF
SuperProbe Version 2.21 (12 October 1999)
[..]
BIOS Base address = 0xC0000
[..]
First video: Super-VGA
Chipset: ATI (chipset unknown) (Port Probed)
Signature data: 3f3f0000 (please report)
Memory: 0 Kbytes
RAMDAC: Generic 8-bit pseudo-color DAC
(with 6-bit wide lookup tables (or in 6-bit mode))
This card exhibited the dreaded 'text corruption problem':
ftp://ftp.xfree86.org/pub/XFree86/3.3.6/fixes/fix-01-r128
I added the patch and rebuilt. The text problem was fixed, but when
windows or text are moved on the screen, columns of various-length
horizontal lines 'snow' the screen and the top line of the display
is sometimes overwritten with console text.
I sent in an xfree86 bug report about it but haven't seen anything
come of it.
