# Subject: CPU Type relevant?
#
# Hello,
#
# how relevant is the determined CPU type?
# I have a Celeron and I get different reports from different OSs.
Is "Coppermine" a Celeron?!? Or are some Celerons Coppermines?
I get this from NetBSD:
cpu0: Intel Pentium III (Coppermine) (686-class), 664.54 MHz
cpu0: I-cache 16K 32b/line 4-way, D-cache 16K 32b/line 2/4-way
cpu0: L2 cache 256K 32b/line 8-way
cpu0: features 383f9ff<FPU,VME,DE,PSE,TSC,MSR,PAE,MCE,CX8,SEP,MTRR>
cpu0: features 383f9ff<PGE,MCA,CMOV,FGPAT,PSE36,MMX,FXSR,XMM>
# from NetBSD:
# cpu0: Intel Pentium III (E) (686-class)
It should be giving you more info than that.
# from OpenBSD:
# cpu0: Intel Pentium III (Coppermine) ("GenuineIntel" 686-class, 128KB L2 cache) 631 MHz
# cpu0: FPU,V86,DE,PSE,TSC,MSR,PAE,MCE,CX8,SYS,MTRR,PGE,MCA,CMOV,PAT,PSE36,MMX,FXSR,SIMD
I think OpenBSD and Linux are possibly lying to you?
# from Linux:
# CPU: Intel Pentium III (Coppermine) stepping 06
# Checking 386/387 coupling... OK, FPU using exception 16 error reporting.
# Checking 'hlt' instruction... OK.
#
# Is Celeron enough compatible with Pention III?
