Have you checked to see you have
apcsmart /dev/ttyXX (this is the driver to collect data from the UPS)
upsd running (server)
All the configuration files are in /usr/local/ups/etc/
Also in your src tree you should read the docs in docs and conf
I am a newbie myself but so far I have already got in monitoring the UPS but
I still have to test to see if it shut down the master correctly and then
the slaves.
