Clueless in Kalamazoo...

Problem: No sound (except for beep) in NetBSD 1.5 on my 
IBM Thinkpad 380Z.

I am using the K Desktop Environment (KDE), which seems 
to work okay, except for sound. (Is that even relevant?) 
I have browsed through various docs and am really quite 
lost. 

Where do I begin to configure sound for my IBM ThinkPad 
380Z? What docs are relevant to a newbie like myself? 
What files are involved? 

I waded through "man audio" but could not make heads or 
tails out of it. Mind you, I am a newibe (know 
practically nothing) so kindly don't be over-brief.
