Thanks to Berndt Wulf I find that my NetBSD 1.5 audio 
works by going...

cat alert.wav > /dev/audio

...and get a sound from the speaker.

So I need to configure KDE 1.1.2 audioserver. Didn't 
really find appropriate docs...yet. The kde.org 
mailman isn't working at the moment, not to 
subscribe to kde-user list anyway.

Anybody got a clue where I ought to look?
