I have a number of WaveLan cards. Mostly from IETFs.
I had been using a pair of RoamAbouts (Cabletron), then my base station
system got moved and one card was returned to its owner, since I had a Lucent
one from Minneapolis.
I tried last night to bring things up again. No dice.
(I have an ISA PCMCIA adapter, so lots of PCI/ISA magic...)
So, I tried my old and new notebooks. No dice.
So, I tried at a friend that has wireless. Roamabout works. Orinico does
not. Linux on his notebook, same results. The linux driver says that the
Orinico needs a ESSID set. (e.g. "ifconfig wi0 nwid xxxx", "wiconfig -i wi0
-n xxxx", or "iwconfig" on Linux).
We tried, no luck.
I'm sure that it worked in base station mode. He has a base station
(currently off in favour of a Linux gateway) that he is going to try. The
card may just be broken.
Firmware rev: 60006.
(Roamabout: rev: 60004)
If others have this working in adhoc mode, please let me know, and I'll
assume my card just died.
