Um... 1.5V (or any 1.5letter) to 1.5.2 is _not_ an upgrade, more of a
downward slide to the side. 1.5letter is part of -current, which will
eventually become NetBSD 1.6/2.0/Fred/whatever we decide to name it.
1.5.2 is a patch release on the release branch that formed when 1.5_ALPHA
was broken split off from -current. See:

You can run a -current kernel with a release branch userland (modulo
some issues with programs which grovel kvm, like ps and w), but trying
to run a release branch kernel with a -current userland is pretty much
doomed to fail.
