While Berndt's comment about <CTRL><ALT> with the keypad <+> or <-> is
correct, I thought that I'd add:

Those key combinations *only* cycle you through the resolutions that you
have defined in your XF86Config file.  (Probably a bunch of modes
(modelines) are in your config file, if you used the standard XFree86
configuration tool and gave it accurate information on your monitor and
video card.)


Also, if your card is supported by XFree86 4.x and if the monitor/card
pair isn't too old, XFree86 4.x can probably do a pretty decent job of
autoconfiguring itself for you.  If you haven't gone too far with X, you
might consider switching to 4.x.  Though there are many cards that 4.2
doesn't support that 3.3.6 did support, so you might need to stick to
3.3.6.  Go to http://www.xfree86.org/4.2.0/Status.html and look for your
card, if you would consider switching.
