Subject: USB keyboard supposed to work in INSTALL kernel?

Is a USB keyboard expected to work for installing? I just booted
the bootfloppies from the most recent -current snapshot (1.5ZC), and
no joy. The keyboard *does* seem to be detected, however:
messages from the INSTALL kernel (10-finger copy):
uhidev0: Macally Macally iKey, rev1.10/0.01, addr 4, iclass 3/1
ukbd0 at uhidev0
wskbd0 at ukbd0 (mux ignored): console keyboard
It worked fine from the GENERIC kernel once I got installed, but I recall
not too long ago when the opposite problem was true (the keyboard
worked from the bootfloppy, but not the GENERIC kernel).
So, is this a known problem? Is it expected to be fixed for 1.6?
Thanks,
+j
