The Windows box is a Dell, it has a built-in 3com 905b-TX ethernet
chip.  Like I said, I suspect there's some sort of performance
decrease here...I recall getting about 8 MB/sec in the past.

I'll try out ttcp tomorrow to see what I get (using Cygwin on the
windoze box).
