I wonder if it would be worth making the boot code use a serial
console and the VGA screen at the same time.

That way you could boot (interactively if necessary) using the
VGA console, but be able to connect up a serial console when
(you expect that) the system has escaped into kdb.

The changes to biosboot.sym shouldn't be too hard - especially
since I've some local changes than mean it has about 7k of
space to play with.
