It doesn't complain! and it would appear to do the right thing:
# ifconfig gsip0
gsip0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
capabilities=7<IP4CSUM,TCP4CSUM,UDP4CSUM>
enabled=0
address: 00:40:f4:29:5e:d1
media: Ethernet 1000baseSX full-duplex
status: no carrier
inet 10.0.0.10 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 10.0.0.255
inet6 fe80::240:f4ff:fe29:5ed1%gsip0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1
Still looks like there may be a problem as there is no carrier. I'll
have a poke about tomorrow, but the fibres were known to be good and the
port on the 6500 has also been tested elsewhere.

# ifconfig -m gsip0
gsip0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
capabilities=7<IP4CSUM,TCP4CSUM,UDP4CSUM>
enabled=0
address: 00:40:f4:29:5e:d1
media: Ethernet 1000baseSX
status: no carrier
supported Ethernet media:
media none
media 1000baseSX
media 1000baseSX mediaopt full-duplex
media autoselect
inet 10.0.0.10 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 10.0.0.255
inet6 fe80::240:f4ff:fe29:5ed1%gsip0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1
Doh! I should have thought of this! Must be lack of beer...
Thanks,
Dave
