This issue was also discussed in a thread entitled "net4801 and linux"
(also related to FreeBSD) in August on the soekris-tech list. An
alternative implementation of the patch and a rationale was presented
there by M. Warner Losh.

Since the archive is currently subscribers-only, I've put the posting
into the file http://www.notcom.org/soekris . I haven't tested either
version of the patch myself.
