Subject: very slow disk after suspend/resume

I have an IBM Thinkpad T30. I've been able to suspend/resume for
years with apm with no trouble, under 1.5 (I think), 1.6, and now
2.99.15.

I recently got a new 100G disk (FUJITSU MHU2100AT), and at the same
time set up a hibernation partition. Now, when resuming or coming out
of hibernation, dd reports only about 3.3 MB/s read rate from the
disk. On a fresh boot, I get 31.7 MB/s (bs=128k). This feels like a
downgrade to PIO, but I don't see any such mesages in the log.

A friend has the same model disk, in a R51 (or close), and doesn't
have this problem.

It could be that the disk is in some funky mode, but atactl reports
that it is 'active' mode

Any clues about where to look? Anyone else seeing this? I wonder
about adding something to undo a downgrade to PIO.
