Hi!

One more follow-up from me...

I tried it on my VIA EPIA M6000E, and the installation now works
fine. The bootloader does not hang anymore, and even X11 is possible now
(at least I was able to start an X-server, usually the machine is
headless).

Sound works for me, although I have a

auvia0: ac97: VIA Technologies VT1616i codec; headphone, 18 bit DAC, 18 bit ADC
auvia0: ac97: ext id 1c5<LDAC,SDAC,CDAC,SPDIF,VRA>

What caused a problem is this: The machine is my
DSL router/proxy/fileserver, with the on-board NIC

vr0 at pci0 dev 18 function 0: VIA VT6102 (Rhine II) 10/100 Ethernet

serving the internal net, and a PCI card with

rtk0 at pci0 dev 20 function 0: Realtek 8139 10/100BaseTX

connecting to the DSL modem. This has worked fine for the last 2 years
with NetBSD 1.6 and 2.0. After upgrading to 3.0RC5, the vr0 interface
shuts down under heavy load. I use other machines for pkgsrc building,
with /usr/pkgsrc exported via NFS. This was no problem until now, only
with sporadic problems (nfs server not responding, usually for a few
seconds, and very rare). With 3.0RC5 this happens virtually immediatly,
and the server does not come back on its own. There are absolutely no
errors on the console or in any logfile concerning the interface itself.

So I switched NICs, i.e. rtk0 is internal and vr0 external. Now I get
this

Dec 10 22:20:20 mini /netbsd: rtk0: transmit underrun; new threshold: 576 bytes
Dec 10 22:20:45 mini /netbsd: rtk0: transmit underrun; new threshold: 640 bytes
Dec 10 22:21:58 mini /netbsd: rtk0: transmit underrun; new threshold: 320 bytes
Dec 10 22:21:58 mini /netbsd: rtk0: transmit underrun; new threshold: 384 bytes
Dec 10 22:21:58 mini /netbsd: rtk0: transmit underrun; new threshold: 448 bytes

every few minutes. At least NFS is stable now, but it is a little bit
annoying.

Are these known problems? AFAIR other users also reported problems with
the Rhine II, but usually got some sort of error messages.
