Subject: Thinkpad 760XD PCMCIA problems?

I've had an ancient IBM Thinkpad 760XD for a while now and have had only
partial success using PCMCIA accessories, and none at all with CardBus
accessories.

Details of working (or at least system-friendly) cards will be shown
below. The non-working cards:

SanDisk CF adapter w/any size CF card
Dazzle 4-in-1 adapter with SD card
Askey WLC010 WiFi adapter (wi)

All exhibit the same behavior. Upon being plugged into either PCMCIA
slot on the ThinkPad, the following message is emitted:

     pcic_wait_ready: ready never happened, status=0c

and the machine is hung, requiring a power-cycle. The same occurs if
the machine is booted with any of the cards already in place.

Under PC-DOS 7.00, the CF card adapter works fine and the machine can
even boot from it. The SD card adapter is not recognized by the
DOS ATA driver. I did not investigate whether there might have been a
packet driver for the WiFi card.

The CF and WiFi adapters work perfectly in another, even older, laptop
(Austin [Arima] Business Audio), also under NetBSD 4.0BETA2. I've not
had a chance to test the SD adapter in that machine.

CardBus devices basically don't show up at all--at least they don't hang
the machine. Although there's a CardBus bridge in the machine, maybe
the built-in slots are not CardBus? (There's space for a second set of
PCMCIA slots that replace the CD-ROM drive. Or maybe they'd be in the
docking station?)

The ethernet part of the IBM @Home&Away card seems not to be supported,
or maybe just not recognized. I used with l_n_x a long time ago, but I
forget which driver supported it.

Thanks.
