Using NetBSD 3.1 (and also the Live! 2007 CD IIRC) i have this in the dmesg:
azalia0 at pci0 dev 27 function 0: Generic High Definition Audio Controller
pci_mem_find: 64-bit memory map which is inaccessible on a 32-bit platform
azalia0: can't map device i/o space
So, there no sound there and also if i remove all audio devices from the kernel
and play with OSS audio. I've heard this is due to a Plug and Play option being
set in the BIOS; however, there is no option in the BIOS of this laptop
(Durabook S14D) to disable PNP. On a mailing list somewhere, i heard that this
can be manually set using pcitweak, only i'm not sure which register to modify
or what the value needs to be set. Hopefully, this is helpful:
