Well, NetBSD and plain FreeBSD have same learning curve and
functionality (+/- drivers and zfs) and it can be used as desktop just
fine. In fact, we already have system, which can be used as desktop,
running from livecd: jibbed. It uses XFCE as desktop, have many
packages. Maybe it isn't full blown desktop, but it is always a start
and can be used in project.
