I'm seeing a very early crash with NetBSD-5.1-STABLE on embedded server
board.
This is a somewhat customized version of 5.1, built from the head of the
netbsd-5 branch. The install media is using a static (no LKMs, not
modular) kernel based on GENERIC, but of course with a memory disk for
the installer to run in.
The same crash apparently happens regardless of whether ACPI (and/or
SMP) are enabled or not. (i.e. booting with flags "-12" didn't change
anything)
Similar crashes happened with netbsd-4, but only with the GENERIC.MP
kernel. The INSTALLER kernel, and the customized system-specific kernel
both work fine.
Unfortunately I don't have direct access to one these systems, or even a
console connection, at this point. I should be able to get a trace-back
soon though, and in the mean time I'll build an even more customized
install media using a kernel configuration that was known to work with
the netbsd-4 branch.
