I still don't know why net5501 doesn't boot from the 2 GB CF card I was trying
to use, but I got it working with a 512 MB Sandisk card.  If I put the same
image on the 2 GB card, all I get is "Error Disk read".  I'm trying to get
larger Sandisk cards, hoping they will work as well.. (512 MB isn't that much
for NetBSD 5.1 without X.)

Anyway, now I need to patch the code to bypass the 2-minute boot delay and
try to set up everything to run with the CF mounted read-only.

The net5501 is supposed to have a hardware watchdog - is it supported in
NetBSD 5.1?
