What's a g_slice?

Hello,

    I recently deleted mail/thunderbird so that I could
rebuild a packaged that it depends on.  I have since re-
built and installed it but when I try to launch thunderbird
I get "(process:4400): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config:
assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed".  I am running NetBSD
/i386 6.1.4 and would welcome any suggestions.
