Hi,

Here are some pointers:

ski simulator  http://ski.sourceforge.net/
Itanium docs http://www.intel.com/design/itanium/documentation.htm

And you may need more firmware-related docs (SAL, PAL, EFI, ACPI etc.)
if you go on to real machines.

If you are not familiar with Itanium and are not brave enough,
playing with ia64 port of NetBSD would be pretty painful...
