Hi again all,

Well, NetBSD on my LCIII is taking a back burner for a couple weeks while I
try and get it working successfully on my IIci. (picked it up nice and
cheap :)

Ok - here's the situation. I've got NetBSD1.0 - the binaries are the old
ones found in every mirror I've looked in. (I'll come back to that bit).

I also have (for my LCIII) the John Wittowski 9.26 kernel on the drive.
I'm taking the external drive with the successful NetBSD installation on it
_from_ my LCIII and using it on the IIci instead. The only change I
initially tried was putting the original kernel back in place instead.
I'm using Booter 1.8.

Initially nowt, cos I still had a Radius PrecisionColor8 Nubus board in it,
and neither kernel gets on with that. Since then, I've removed that and had
slightly more success. (dubiously though!).

Using the 'real' kernel:
System now gets as far as "Preserving 63 bytes..." or whatever - the first
line on the white screen when it boots. It then hangs. The booter _does_ note
that it's an 'old kernel' and says it isn't saving video information I think.

Using The Wittoski Kernel (I know, I know, but I thought I'd try for fun):
System boots. Albeit with a short delay while it struggles to find a suitable
reply from ADB. It recognises that I have a keyboard and mouse on the ADB.
However, since the ADB is different on this machine, it doesn't actually do me
much good. BUT - it does boot correctly, and ask me (in single user mode) to
enter shell to use (or return for sh). But of course, I can't type anything,
  cos it's the wrong kernel!

So, following that I have a few semi-dumb questions:

1) The "old kernel" warning - do I take it I need a newer one then?!! Or does it
sound like I've just got a corrupted version of something? I'm keen to know
before I spend my hard earned cash on the phone bill, by downloading another
   set of binaries!
2) Where can I get a suitable binary? I was told before where to look for
newer binaries than the set I have (November I think I was told to get).
But I have was unable to find any actual _binaries_. So,
if anybody can specifically point me towards a file.... :-)
3) In other words - please guide a stupid person to fixing this!
4) I gather the IIci should not really have any problems running NetBSD: is
that
   still true?
5) I have a Shiva Etherport II ethernet card in it which I have only
had a chance to actually identify today. Does anybody know if this will
be
   fine?

Sorry if these are obvious answers - they've probably come up before, but
then when you don't own the machine, you tend to forget the previous
answers... :-(

Thanks again,

John.
