Stranger and stranger.  If the NFS kernel works, use it, but I think
that this is just a work-around--i.e., I think this is a bug that just
happens to not be tickled in the NFS kernel because of its size or
something obscure.  If any of you seeing this problem could work on
tracking it down, it would be a Good Thing.
